Selecting the duvet fill weight (silk density / heating rate) is extremely important for a more relaxing sleep.

Several independent studies have shown that a slight variation of 3-4 degrees in the sleeping temperature during the night can result in sweating or shivering. This in turn reduces time spent in the vital REM sleep1. Lack of REM sleep due to overheating and night sweats is thought by some researchers to be a main cause for hypertension, headaches, and increased risk of diabetes2, and a weakened immune system3.

It is both healthier and more comfortable to sleep with a thinner and breathable duvet than a thick warm blanket. A thicker duvet means that the body's heat cannot escape through the barrier of stagnant hot air caught inside.

We have compiled a quick guide to help you with choosing the correct filling density and, consequently, the correct degree of heat.

Silk duvet filling weight is measured by the number of grams per square meter (g/sqm) - known as silk density. The term TOG is not used for duvets and pillows with silk filling. In silk duvets from NordicComfort® the term "silk density" and "heat degree" is used for all seasons.

It will therefore always be possible to achieve the optimal sleeping temperature with a silk duvet - even when it gets really cold. It's just about choosing the right silk density.
